Every Day Is Valuable
“I had been experiencing a number of severe stress symptoms including shortness of breath on a daily basis and difficulty sleeping at night.”
In March 2020, Jeff, 27, started attending counselling sessions at Bethesda Care Services. Back then he was still adjusting to a new job and home. His wife noticed his struggles and encouraged him to seek help.
“During this time, I had a negative outlook on life and was not able to enjoy each day that God had given me. Through counselling, we were able to identify the root causes of my stress. We leveraged frameworks to address these root causes that were hindering my life and to shift my mindset.”
The season in which Jeff attended counselling sessions coincided with the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore. After a few face-to-face sessions with Valerie, the counsellor from Bethesda Care Services, the counselling sessions were shifted online and conducted on Zoom. By late 2020 Jeff was able to live a normal life rather than feeling debilitated by stress and anxiety.

“Instead of focusing on false beliefs and worrying about things to come, I developed a new perspective that allowed me to focus on the present. I now have a better attitude and outlook towards life. I can now enjoy the small things in life and have overcome my stress and anxiety.”
When asked what Jeff would like to share with others who are experiencing mental stress, he shared the following:
“Be courageous and do not delay in seeking out help from others. Have a bias to action. Every day is valuable. The sooner you seek help, the earlier you can remove the mental stress that’s a part of your life.”
“Counselling can and will change your life for the better if you give it a chance. It’s an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on both the blessings and challenges in your life. It’s a chance to shift your mindset from what’s impossible to what’s possible.”
