Active Ageing at Bethesda Care Services: Auntie May Yin’s Winning Journey

“Winning and losing is not important. Just enjoy the process.”

For Auntie May Yin, a regular participant in Bethesda Care Services’ Active Ageing programmes, this mindset has shaped her winning journey towards healthier and more meaningful ageing.

In support of the national Age Well SG movement, Bethesda Care Services offers a range of Active Aging programmes designed to promote physical health, mental agility and social connection. From resistance band workouts and line dancing to karaoke sessions and the strategic game of Rummyo, these activities create opportunities for seniors to stay active, engaged and connected within the community.

When Auntie May Yin first joined our Active Ageing sessions, she was introduced to Rummyo by fellow seniors. What began as a simple recreational activity soon grew into a passion. With encouragement and practice, she gained confidence and went on to represent BCS at Rummy-Con 2025 in October. Her team emerged overall champions for the fourth consecutive year. Beyond the championship title, what mattered most to her was the camaraderie, mental stimulation and shared joy experienced along the way.

Auntie May Yin’s story reflects the wider impact of Active Ageing programmes in Singapore. Regular participation in exercise, cognitive activities and social engagement helps seniors maintain mental sharpness, emotional resilience and a strong sense of belonging. Through consistent involvement, many seniors experience improved confidence, stronger friendships and better overall wellbeing.

Auntie May Yin’s journey reminds us that it is never too late to try something new, build friendships and grow in confidence. At Bethesda Care Services, we remain committed to creating safe and welcoming spaces where seniors can stay active in body and mind.
